Senior Citizen Discounts 2016: Some of Our Favorite Places to Save

One of the best benefits of becoming a senior citizen is the senior citizen discounts that one can receive as they hit their golden years.   Organizations such as AARP and local businesses are wise to know that the baby boomer generation is now in senior citizen range and they are offering discounts to help boost their own business, along with giving seniors great discounts.   Many 2016 senior citizen discount programs are automatic, while others require the seniors to apply for membership or make sure to let the business know that they are a senior.  Here is a list of some of our favorite senior citizen discounts in 2016 to help you save money on things that you enjoy.

These are just a few of our favorite restaurants that offer discounts for senior citizens.  We try to focus on more of the larger chain groups that are available nationwide.  Remember before going to a restaurant it is wise to call ahead and check if they do offer senior discounts.

Burger King:  Always a favorite among seniors, Burger King offers 10% discount on all items and also gives additional discounts on coffee and soft drinks as they are a favorite “hang-out” for many senior citizens each and every morning.

Dunkin’ Donuts:  Dunkin Donuts is a favorite among AARP members as they offer a free donut with a purchase of a large coffee at most of their locations.  This is one of our favorite senior citizen 2016 discounts as Dunkin’ Donuts are popular no matter where you may travel.

Outback Steakhouse:  One of the best chain restaurants around, Outback Steakhouse offers generous discounts of 15% off for AARP members every Monday through Thursday.

Waffle House:  Open 24/7 and found almost everywhere in the United States, Waffle House restaurants are a favorite among senior citizens as they offer tasty food at a low price.  Waffle House offers 10% off of meals every Monday for seniors aged 60 and over.

Unfortunately many of us who are seniors are required to have more and more prescriptions as we age. While AARP does a great job with medications, many large organizations have prescription programs that help seniors save additional money,  here are a couple of our favorites.

CVS:  As we get older, one of the biggest expenses and pains can be keeping up with the amount of medication that we take on a daily basis.  Fortunately CVS is on our side and offers a Savings Pass that can be one of the best senior citizen discounts 2016.

Target:  Not really thought of as a prescription spot, Target’s Prescription Savings Program offers 10-50% off prescriptions for seniors and their families.

Shopping can be very expensive, especially now that brick and mortar stores are competing with online retailers, fortunately many of these retail stores offer discounts both online and in their physical stores.  Here are a few of our favorites that offer 2016 senior discounts.

Kohl’s:  Every Wednesday is “Senior Discount Day” at Kohl’s as they offer 15% off of prices.  Combine these days with your Kohl’s Cash and you can save a boatload of money when shopping at Kohl’s.

Belk’s:   As one of the higher end clothing stores around, Belk offers generous senior discounts once a month to their customers.  Usually during the first Tuesday of every month, Belk’s will give seniors a 15% discount off of anything that they purchase.
