One benefit from being a senior if you are retired is that you have the benefit of planning vacations during off-seasons as you have extreme flexibility with your schedule. For those that still work there is other ways to save money too. As money saving for seniors guide, this will give you some inside tips on how to save money when you travel. Here are some of our favorite tips.
Call Hotels directly
If you are a senior you were very familiar with this prior to say 2005, you would physically call a hotel and talk to a real live human about rates and special offers they may have. Surprise, surprise this is still something that is possible. Online websites do offer a number of discounts, but not all of them are shared by hotels. Hotels will often have hidden senior discounts or other valuable discounts that they may not advertise. Grab a phonebook or look online for an actual physical hotel number and you will be surprised at the money you can save.
Vacation in the Off-Season
If you are vacationing any time from May – August you can plan on paying a premium regardless of your age. If you have the flexibility of traveling the rest of the year, especially in “touristy” type locations such as Orlando you can save a bundle of money. Look for fall and spring discounts on beach houses and other property managed by small companies and individuals as they are thrilled just to have customers after the peak season. While you might not get all the glitz and glamour of the beach life, you will still be able to enjoy great prices and peace and quiet on your stay. Our tip for seniors is to hunt out a beach house or property that you like and ask their availability during the off-season. You may also be able to barter with owners as they are happy to have anyone rent their place during certain times of the year.
Clear You’re Cookies
This is an unknown senior tip, but something that we technology savvy people at SeniorTV know about and that is clearing cookies from your PC if you are ordering online. Many websites are set up to give discounts to “new” visitors to their sites only and they will often not give repeat customers these deals. To look new to a site that you have visited before it is wise to clear your “cookies” and browser settings to avoid any deals that you may miss due to a software program tracking your PC. Consider Alternative Lodging
This works hand in hand with calling owners in the off-season and that is to search around for other places to stay when planning a trip. Besides the traditional hotel, there are camping, villas, motor homes and many other types of alternative lodging choices other than a hotel room. For those who must stay in a hotel room, we advise shopping around the looking for online promo codes and discounts that may help you save money on your choices.
Those are just a few of the money saving tips for seniors that we have found. At SeniorTV we put seniors first and have structured our whole organization to finding and meeting needs of seniors.
